ZHU Xinyu 朱新宇 CHINA, b. 1980

ZHU Xinyu (b. 1980, Haicheng, Liaoning Province, China) graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Second Studio (New Figurative Studio), Oil Painting Department, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, in 2004. His practice has long centered on everyday experience and the perception of space. Drawing from subtle elements within his living environment, he explores the complex relationships between people and objects, as well as between perception and memory. Through processes of fragmentation, layering, overlaying, and reconstruction, he transforms everyday spaces into new visual structures within painting. Elements such as roads, window views, interior spaces, plants, and animals no longer serve as specific narrative subjects, but instead become integral components of his pictorial language through the interplay of color, line, texture, and structure. Through continuous observation and adjustment, ZHU transforms lived experience into ever-evolving visual relationships within painting, allowing his works to retain the warmth of everyday life while presenting a distinctive spatial condition situated between revelation and concealment, memory and construction. ZHU Xinyu currently lives and works in Beijing, China. His works are held in the collections of DSL Collection, France; GOME Art Foundation, China; HUAWEI Art Foundation, China; White Rabbit Gallery, Australia; and Singapore Art Museum, Singapore.
